Our goal is to strengthen capacity of the behavioral health workforce through these focused strategies:

Workforce Planning

  • Understand current workforce data collection efforts
  • Expand efforts to collect workforce data
  • Improve supply and demand estimates for the behavioral health workforce

Workforce Development

  • Expand recruitment/retention for the behavioral health workforce
  • Define education requirements across disciplines
  • Develop mechanisms for increasing diversity within disciplines
  • Ensure that competencies prepare workers to address special needs and new delivery models

Service Delivery

  • Evaluate differences in legal responsibility and authority in service delivery
  • Understand the role of financial incentives and payers on workforce capacity
  • Improve service delivery to underserved populations
  • Evaluate models of care
